There are mechanics where shielding gives a bigger cushion to pass the mechanic, like a proximity based damage+knockback, but if you're too far from the proximity source you get knocked into the wall and die. In harder content you will find that there are mechanics that need mitigation or you will die. Shields are helpful in the following situations: In general regen is more efficient than a regular burst heal or shield, either in mp usage or potency. They also have whispering dawn, an AOE regen. With that said a barrier healer like scholar doesn't only have shields. Extreme and below it doesn't really matter, and for normal content I honestly think you can get away with a solo healer but I digress. You usually need both for savage content and above, though after gear upgrades and people getting smarter you can run whm/diu ast in savage. SCH/SGE reduce the amount of damage taken for easy top off with passive healing. SGE has some regen oGCDs.īut if you look at the kits as a whole, WHM/AST do big heals with lots of regens to heal damage after it happens. SCH fairy has some aoe regen and can convert shields to raw healing. WHM gets Divine Benison (a 500 potency shield in endwalker), AST gets Celestial Intersection / Neutral Sect, which both add shields. Both of these mechanics allow the SGE / SCH to focus on shielding through huge damage and adding a stream of constant small heals to help with the damage that gets through. SCH has the fairy who is always passively healing. SGE has Kardia, which lets them put a buff on someone (think DNC partner mechanic) and every offensive spell they cast heals the Kardia target for 170 potency. And they make up for their lack of healing through other means. SGE and SCH are capable of raw healing, just much weaker and usually through bigger cooldowns. A SGE probably wouldn't succeed if the damage couldn't be blocked. If a boss had an attack that put you at 1 hp followed by an attack that does 99% of your hp 15 seconds later, your best bet to survive is a WHM / AST throughput healing. WHM on the other hand has a spammable Cure II at 800 potency (at level 90).īoth WHM and AST have tons of instant demand heals and high healing throughput. ![]() This is beast seen in the fact that SGE doesn't have a Diagnosis (Cure equivalent) II.
